Elliptical Trainer or Treadmill Which Are The Best Piece Of Fitness Equipment - Period
By Derrick Pizur
In recent years there has been a great debate on whether elliptical trainers are better for your fitness regimen or the use of a treadmill. Personally, I see benefits in both pieces of fitness equipment, below we will briefly review my thoughts on each.
With the use of an elliptical trainer you can vary your workout were often with a treadmill you can only do one of two things either run or walk. This is ideal for a change of pace in your workout. I don’t know about you but sometimes I do not feel like a full out run or a really slow walk.
Elliptical trainers also allow for greater speed control as they are self-propelled unlike a treadmill which is often machine propelled. This of course puts you in 100% control.
By allowing you to control your own speed the elliptical trainer does not put as much impact on your joints and is easier to use for someone who may not be able to maintain a constant speed.
If you're on a treadmill and unable to keep the pace it is very easy to get thrown off the treadmill or falling and getting injured when with an elliptical trainer you can basically just stop and the machine will quit moving.
Being an ex-football player the joints in my legs often ache, when this is compounded by using a treadmill it can be recovered really painful sight.
The best thing to do is go to your local fitness store and test out an elliptical trainer and right after that a treadmill. This will allow you to compare both machines and decide which one is the best choice for you. Once you have decided on which machine is best for you, then you can research the different styles and brands within that group.
From a pure calorie burning standpoint based on my research I feel that elliptical trainer will burn more calories per time unit spent. With that being said you actually have to use the machine to burn calories.
Buying a piece of fitness equipment and leaving it sit in the corner collecting dust will not help you reach your fitness goals only frustrate you as you spend your hard earned money and did not lose any weight.
